100 Years of Election Cartoons

The State Historical Society of Missouri in Lowry Mall has a wonderful display of election cartoons from the past 100 years.  Here is just a few of the cartoons that were on display.

Depicts the issue of women's suffrage in the U.S. at this time.

Gordon Grant, 1912: Depicts the issue of women's suffrage in the U.S. at this time.

This cartoon indicates that Calvin Coolidge's campaign promoted money interests.

Daniel Fitzpatrick, 1924: This cartoon indicates that Calvin Coolidge's campaign promoted money interest.

Truman's attempt to energize his campaign.

Daniel Fitzpatrick, 1948: Truman's attempt to energize his campaign after falling behind in the polls.

Newton Pratt, 1960: This cartoon was created just after Kennedy's acceptance speech.

Ed Holland, 1968: Depicts Hubert Humphrey's difficulties in overcoming the scandals of the Lyndon Johnson administration.

Ed Valtman, 1976: Depicts Carter's attempts to avoid discussing the issue of abortion during his 1976 campaign.

John Darkow, 2000: Both Bush and Gore were declared the winner at some point during the night of the 2000 election.
